Russian wheat export dropped nearly threefold in April

In the first 20 days of April, Russia exported 1.3 million tons of wheat, what is 2.8 times less than during the same period last year, according to Interfax, citing data from the Russian Grain Union’s monitoring.

According to Elena Tyurina, Director of the Analytical Department of the Russian Grain Union, wheat shipments this month were made to 15 countries,compared to 35 over the same period last year. Iran became the largest buyer, receiving 203.5 thousand tons, which is 1.9 times more than last year. Turkey ranked second with 191 thousand tons (a 2.2-fold decrease). Shipments to Libya dropped by 33% to 108 thousand tons. Nigeria, which received no shipments a year ago, imported 76.5 thousand tons this April. Oman closed out the top five with 71.5 thousand tons, what is 3.2 times more than last year.

The expert also highlighted Sudan, which received no Russian wheat exports a year ago but has now imported 66 thousand tons, and Tanzania, where shipments increased by 22% to 54 thousand tons. Exports to Albania rose 2.9 times, and to Lebanon- nearly fivefold, though the volumes remain relatively small.

At the same time, Elena Tyurina noted that one of the key buyers of Russian grain -Egypt -reduced its purchases in April by 8.2 times, down to just 33 thousand tons. Shipments to Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen also dropped significantly.
