In the first quarter of 2025, Ukrainian ports handled 23 million tons of cargo, according to a report published by the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority on its official Facebook page.
The highest cargo volumes were handled by the ports of Greater Odesa, which processed 20.7 million tons of cargo since the beginning of the year, including:
- Pivdennyi Port - 10,6 million tons;
- Chornomorsk Port - 6,6 million tons;
- Odessa port - 3,5 million tons.
Additionally, the Danube region ports — Izmail, Reni, and Ust-Dunaisk — handled over 2.3 million tons of cargo collectively. For comparison, in the first quarter of 2024, Ukrainian ports processed 27.8 million tons of cargo, which is 4.8 million tons more than this year.
The decline in cargo turnover, according to the press service, is due to a reduction in agricultural land and a downturn in production across export-oriented industries, including metallurgy, which before the war exported up to 80% of its output.
Meanwhile, at the global level, cargo handling is also declining due to market instability and disruptions in logistics.
“Despite the challenging conditions, Ukrainian ports continue to play a critical role in ensuring exports, imports, and economic stability. Thanks to the resilience of the workers, the port sector maintains its logistical front,” the statement said.
