The Baltic region has traditionally been one of the key links in the global supply chain. It is not for nothing that the Baltic Freight Index is one of the main indicators of the global freight market.

The soybean segment in Ukraine remains one of the most promising and dynamic. Over the past few years, the market has demonstrated stable growth in all areas - from gross harvest to processing and exports. The current season has not become an exception.

In 2024 alone, the planted area under soybeans increased by more than 30% to a record 2.6 million hectares, and compared to 2020, when production stagnated, the increase is estimated at almost 70%. Gross soybean harvest in Ukraine exceeded the 6 million tons mark for the first time, amounting to about 6.1-6.2 million tons, which is one of the highest figures in Europe.

Why KazOil?

At the moment, the oil and fat industry of Kazakhstan is the most dynamically developing industry in the agricultural sector. We see not only steadily growing acreage under key oilseeds, but also new records in production and export of processed products.

The acreage under the main oilseeds in Kazakhstan (sunflower, soybean, rapeseed) has increased by 29% over the past 4 years. In particular, the area under sunflower increased by 34%, and under rapeseed - by 27%.

In Kazakhstan, according to experts, the year will be productive, but tense. Harvesting data confirms that the current season's grain harvest could be a record in terms of volume. However, it is difficult to predict at the beginning of the season what the market trends will be, especially after the experience of MY 2023/24, which was characterized as a “perfect storm year”. Quality and phytosanitary issues will affect the export trade.

Ukraine remains one of the key suppliers of oil and fat products to foreign markets despite the significant challenges faced by the Ukrainian agro-industrial complex in the context of the war. In particular, the share of Ukrainian sunflower oil on the global market in 2023/24 MY was maintained at 40%, sunflower meal increased from 43% to 47%, and rapeseed also increased to 22%, compared to 17% in the previous MY.

For the fourth year in a row, in September, representatives of the grain and oilseed markets of Uzbekistan will meet in Tashkent with existing and potential partners to discuss working conditions and cooperation in the new 2024/25 MY.

The international conference will traditionally be dedicated to the EU oilseeds and by-products market with a focus on premium vegetable oils.

2022/23 MY has become unique for Kazakhstan. One of the most fruitful seasons over the past 10 years, providing an export potential of more than 10 mln tonnes revealed the problematic issues that have accumulated over the years.

The geography of exports of Ukrainian sunoil was very wide, but among the key importers, it is worth highlighting the European Union with a share of 32.4%, India (32%) and China (11%).

2022 was a year of dramatic changes in the global food and grain market, primarily as a result of Russia's military invasion of Ukraine. The war in Ukraine has affected all sectors of the global economy, including energy, finance, agriculture, logistics, and more. The reduction in export supplies and the disruption of supply chains have jeopardized food security in countries most dependent on Black Sea grain imports. Together, Ukraine and Russia exported about 30% of all wheat and about 18% of corn in the world. According to analysts, more than 400 million people in the world depend on grain supplies from Ukraine alone. And the risks Ukraine faces during the 2022/23 sowing campaign further increase the tension on the global market.
