Corn harvesting started in Ukraine

Ukraine has started harvesting corn - according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, as of August 29, the first 6.6 thsd ha in Cherkasy and Poltava regions were threshed, yielding 29.7 thsd tonnes of the grain with a yield of 45 c/ha.

Overall, as of this date, Ukraine harvested grains and pulses from a total area of 6.802 mln ha, which is 62% of the planned area. The gross grain harvest is estimated at 28.712 mln tonnes with the average yield of 42.2 c/ha.

By crop, the harvest dynamics is as follows:

  • wheat - 21.76 mln tonnes from 4.86 mln hectares (100% of the plan) with a yield of 44.8 c/ha
  • buckwheat - 18.3 thsd tonnes from 12.4 thsd ha (14%) with a yield of 14.8 c/ha;
  • millet - 45.5 thsd tonnes from 24.7 thsd ha (28%) with a yield of 18.4 c/ha;
  • other grains and pulses - 909.3 thsd tonnes from 287.9 thsd ha (81%) with the yield of 32.4 c/ha.

As for oilseeds, the figures are as follows:

  • sunflower - 419.4 thsd tonnes from 256.5 thsd ha (5% of the plan) with a yield of 16.3 c/ha;
  • rapeseed - 3.4 mln tonnes from 1.23 mln ha (98% of the plan) with the yield of 27.7 c/ha;
  • soybeans - 381.8 thsd tonnes from 223.7 thsd ha (8%) with a yield of 17.1 c/ha.

As of August 29, sugar beet was dug on 1.2 thsd ha (less than 1% of the planned), with 56.9 thsd tonnes harvested at 494.8 c/ha.
