In 2024, the sunflower harvest in Kazakhstan reached a record 1.83 mln tonnes. This is 48% higher than in 2023 (1.23 mln tonnes) and 40% more than the gross harvest in 2022 (1.3 mln tonnes), APK-Inform reports citing the official statistics.

In 2024, the harvested area of sunflower totaled 1.25 mln ha, down from 1.12 mln ha in 2023 and 1.09 mln ha in 2022.

The sunflower seed yield was also the highest in the last three years, reaching 14.6 c/ha (in 2023 - 11 c/ha, in 2022 - 12 c/ha).

In 2024, the top three sunflower producers in Kazakhstan traditionally included Abay (440 thsd tonnes), East Kazakhstan (384.5 thsd tonnes) and Pavlodar (359 thsd tonnes) regions.

The rapeseed harvest in Kazakhstan in 2024 was also a record - 286 thsd tonnes with an average yield of 19.2 c/ha. In 2023, these figures amounted to 123 thsd tonnes and 13.3 c/ha, in 2022 - 188.6 thsd tonnes and 14.2 c/ha, respectively.

The gross harvest of soybeans - 207.5 thsd tonnes - slightly exceeded the figure of 2023 (203.9 thsd tonnes), but was lower than the harvest in 2022 (250.4 thsd tonnes). The yield of this oilseed in 2024 was the highest in the last 3 years - 21 c/ha (in 2023 - 20.5 c/ha, in 2022 - 19.6 c/ha).

According to the official statistics, the harvest of oilseed flax last year amounted to about 760 thsd tonnes, which was higher than the failed 2023 (361 thsd tonnes), but lower than the level of 2022 (845.6 thsd tonnes). At the same time, the average flax yield was the highest in the last three years (8.7 c/ha against 5 c/ha in 2023 and 6.3 c/ha in 2022).

However, the safflower harvest in Kazakhstan decreased to the lowest level for the same period and amounted to only 228 thsd tonnes (in 2023 - 242 thsd tonnes and in 2022 - 447.5 thsd tonnes) with the average yield of 7.2 c/ha, 6.2 c/ha and 7.1 c/ha, respectively.

Trends in oilseeds production in Kazakhstan will be discussed at the international conference KazOil-2025, which will be held in Astana on February 13.

During the second session, Farid Abitaev, General Director of the Oilseeds Research Farm, Chairman of the Republican Chamber of Seed Growers of Kazakhstan, will present a report on “The map of production of major oilseeds in Kazakhstan: trends of the last 5 years, key factors and development potential”.

We will also consider the prospects of niche oilseeds in the Kazakh market and many other relevant issues.
