If Ukraine does not increase its monthly export of grain from the current 3 mln tonnes to 5.5-6 mln tonnes, the domestic agricultural industry may lose at least $3-4 bln per year, said Dmytro Solomchuk, a member of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Agrarian and Land Policy on the air of the telethon.
"The harvest will be larger than predicted, approximately at the level of 75 mln tonnes. Taking into account these figures and domestic consumption, we need to export at least 5.5-6 mln tonnes of grain per month, so that there is no surplus that will be transferred to the next harvest," he believes.
Solomchuk clarified that currently exports are carried out by land routes and the Danube, amounting to 3 mln tonnes per month, but this is not enough.
Large financial losses will force Ukrainian farmers to save on the quality of seeds, the amount of fertilizers, and problems with payment for land shares. Therefore, the quality and volume of the harvest in the coming year may decrease, the expert emphasized.
