Ukraine begins sowing oilseeds

Sowing of oilseeds has begun in Ukraine, as reported by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.

As of April 3, 33,000 hectares have been sown with sunflower, which is about 1% of the planned area (5.082 million hectares). Soybeans have been sown on 2,600 hectares, or 0.1% of the forecasted 2.389 million hectares. Sunflower sowing is taking place in 9 regions, while soybeans are being sown in 3.

Regarding spring grains and legumes, by the same date, 926,000 hectares have been planted, which is 16% of the planned (5.764 million hectares). As specified, the planted area includes 116,500 hectares of wheat (52% of the forecast), 551,800 hectares of barley (71%), 164,300 hectares of peas (76%), 82,300 hectares of oats (1%), 200 hectares of millet (0.2%), and 11,000 hectares of other grains and legumes (10%).

Sowing is ongoing in all regions of Ukraine, except Luhansk. The largest planted areas are in the following regions:

  • Odesa - 92,300 hectares,
  • Ternopil - 87,400 hectares,
  • Poltava - 83,200 hectares,
  • Mykolaiv - 73,600 hectares,
  • Vinnytsia - 72,600 hectares.

It is also worth noting, as of April 4 last year, 852,100 hectares had been sown with spring crops, or 15.2% of planned (5.601 million hectares).

Sugar beet sowing is also underway, with 64,800 hectares already planted, or 25% of planned (262,700 hectares).
