The cold weather in the first decade of April in Ukraine does not have a critical negative impact on the main agricultural crops. This was stated by Taras Vysotsky, the First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, in a TV broadcast, as reported by Ukrinform.
“The cold weather in the first decade of April is not the worst in terms of weather factors. For example, last year there was a frost wave in May, including in the southeastern part, which, unfortunately, led to losses in rapeseed and other crops. Therefore, today, at this time of year, in terms of cereals, oilseeds, that is, all basic crops, it does not have a critical negative impact. The risk zone is horticulture, but again, there are available technologies, when we talk about industrial horticulture, to protect plants and plantations to prevent negative effects,” noted T. Vysotsky.
He also noted that a sharp warming is forecasted for this week, which will make up for the halt in vegetation during the current period.
“At present, there are no grounds for concern. Ukraine will have a harvest, and food security will be guaranteed," assured the First Deputy Minister.
