As of March 27, spring grain and leguminous crops in Ukraine were sown on 551.8 thousand hectares, accounting for 10% of the forecasted area (5.764 million hectares), according to the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.
Of the total sown area 79.8 thousand hectares (36% of the forecast) were planted with wheat, 315.5 thousand hectares (40%) with barley, 102.9 thousand hectares (48%) with peas, 50.7 thousand hectares (31%) with oats.
The sowing campaign is underway in all regions of Ukraine except Luhansk. As of March 27, the largest sown areas were recorded in:
- Mykolaiv region – 60.1 thousand hectares,
- Ternopil region – 58.1 thousand hectares,
- Vinnytsia region – 53 thousand hectares,
- Kirovohrad region – 48.8 thousand hectares,
- Volyn region – 47 thousand hectares.
By crop type, the most wheat and barley were sown in Ternopil region (14 thousand hectares and 36.8 thousand hectares, respectively), while Mykolaiv region led in pea sowing (24.5 thousand hectares).
Additionally, Ukraine has begun planting sugar beets, with 17.8 thousand hectares sown as of March 27, which is 7% of the planned 262.7 thousand hectares.
It is also worth noting that by March 28 last year, 476.7 thousand hectares of spring crops had been sown, covering 8.5% of the planned 5.601 million hectares.
