Grain harvesting rates in Ukraine are noticeably higher than last year's rates

According to operational data of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, as of 3 October, grain and leguminous crops in Ukraine were harvested from a total area of 8.531 mln ha, which is 77% of the planned area (11.116 mln ha). The gross grain harvest is estimated at 37.262 mln tonnes with an average yield of 42.4 kg/ha.

It should be noted that as of October 5 last year, 32.31 mln tonnes of grain and leguminous crops were harvested from 7.258 mln hectares (67% of the forecast). The average yield was 43.7 c/ha.

Currently, harvesting of late grain crops continues, in particular:

  • corn - 7.685 mln tonnes from 1.49 mln hectares (37%) at a yield of 51.6 c/ha;
  • buckwheat - 121.8 thousand tonnes from 84.3 thousand hectares (95%) with a yield of 14.4 c/ha;
  • millet - 154.78 thousand tonnes from 81.9 thousand hectares (88%) with a yield of 18.9 centners per hectare.

As for oilseed crops, sunflower and soybeans are being harvested and their harvesting indicators as of this date are as follows:

  • sunflower - 8.037 mln tonnes from 3.93 mln ha (79% of the plan) with a yield of 20.5 c/ha;
  • soybeans - 4.277 mln tonnes from 1.97 mln hectares (74%) with a yield of 21.7 centners per hectare.

In addition, Ukraine continues harvesting of sugar beet, which as of October 3 was dug on 75.1 thousand hectares (29% of the planned), 3.541 mln tonnes with a yield of 47.7 c/ha.
