Kyrgyzstan has successfully completed its grain harvesting season, as reported by the National Statistical Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic. As of November 23, 2023, grains, excluding pulses, rice, and buckwheat, were harvested from 585.1 thsd ha, reflecting a 1.7% increase y-o-y. However, the total threshed grain weighed in at 1.7 mln tonnes (-13.4% y-o-y). The reduction in production is attributed to a 28% decline in grain yield compared to the corresponding date last year, according to the National Statistics Committee.

In particular, due to abnormally high temperatures in the summer of this year during the growing season, wheat production decreased by 25.7% – to 464 thsd tonnes with an average yield of 2.02 t/ha (versus 625 thsd tonnes and 2.68 t/ha, respectively). The barley production decreased by 29.5% – to 403 thsd tonnes with the average yield of 1.67 t/ha (versus 572 thsd tonnes and 2.44 t/ha, respectively).

It is noted that the harvesting areas of pulses, oilseeds and cotton have decreased. Thus, pulses were harvested from 53.6 thsd ha (-6.1% y-o-y), oilseeds – from 14.7 thsd ha (-17.2%), and cotton – from 17.6 thsd ha (-18.4%).

Along with this, compared to the same date last year, the gross harvest of sugar beets significantly increased – by 37.3% (up to 600 thsd tonnes) and corn for grain – by 10% (up to 800 thsd tonnes).
