Kazakhstan received an extremely low harvest of oilseed this season. According to official statistics, in 2023 the gross collection of curly flax in the Republic of Kazakhstan amounted to only 361.7 thsd tonnes. This is 2.33 times lower than the figure for 2022 (845.6 thsd tonnes), APK-Inform reports.

The yield of this crop decreased not so significantly, to 0.5 t/ha (2022 – 0.63 t/ha).

But the harvesting area of flaxseed was only 726 thsd ha (against 1.345 mln ha a year earlier). At the same time, according to the Bureau of National Statistics, about 96,000 hectares of flaxseed crops died due to adverse weather conditions in Kazakhstan in 2023.

As APK-Inform previously reported, on January 1, 2024, flaxseed stocks in Kazakhstan decreased to 472 thsd tonnes (against 786 thsd tonnes y-o-y).

Kazakhstan is one of the three largest suppliers of flaxseed on the global market: from 2013 to 2022, the share of Kazakhstan in this market increased from 11% to 28%.

According to experts, this season a unique situation has developed on the global market of flaxseed – the demand for raw materials for processing far exceeds the level of supply.
