According to preliminary estimates of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, in 2024, the total production of grains and oilseeds in Ukraine will amount to about 74 mln tonnes, including about 52.4 mln tonnes of grains and 21.7 mln tonnes of oilseeds, the Ministry predicts.

In particular, it is expected that this year Ukrainian farmers will be able to harvest the following volumes of grain crops: wheat - 19.2 mln tonnes (last year 22.2 mln tonnes were harvested), barley - 4.9 mln tonnes (5.7 mln tonnes), corn - 26.7 mln tonnes (30.5 mln tonnes).

"Among the oilseeds, we expect an increase in soybeans. This crop is expected to produce 5.2 mln tonnes against 4.7 mln tonnes in 2023.Sunflower production is forecast at 12.4 mln tonnes, last year it was harvested 12.9 mln tonnes. Rapeseed harvest is forecasted at 4.1 mln tonnes, while last year it was 4.7 mln tonnes," the statement added.

As the Ministry clarified, the forecasts for gross harvest figures "are preliminary and will be adjusted during the year depending on circumstances, primarily weather conditions".

It is also noted that the total sown area of grains and legumes this year is projected at 10.6 mln ha (-395 thsd ha compared to 2023). Of these, winter wheat was sown on 4.3 mln ha (-0.3 mln ha), while spring wheat is expected to be planted on 0.2 mln ha (+0.2 thsd ha). Winter barley was sown on the area of 0.47 mln ha (-0.15 mln ha), the area of spring barley is expected to be 0.94 mln ha (+0.06 mln ha), and corn - 3.9 mln ha (-62 thsd ha).

Among oilseeds, soybean plantings are increasing. It is forecasted that soybeans will be planted on the area of 2.2 mln ha. This is almost 400 thsd ha more than last year. Sunflower will be planted on almost the same area as last year - 5.3 mln ha, rapeseed - 1.5 mln ha, which is 0.1 mln ha less than last year.
