Spring crops have been sown on the first one million hectares in Ukraine

As of April 10, Ukrainian farmers had sown 1.059 million hectares of spring grain and legumes, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy. This represents 19% of the planned 5.681 million hectares for the season.

It is specified that out of the total sown area, 141.1 thousand hectares (62% of the forecast) were planted with wheat, 612.2 thousand hectares (60.4%) with barley, 182.8 thousand hectares (84%) with peas and 106.1 thousand hectares (66%) with oats. Another 16.2 thousand hectares (15%) were sown with various other spring grains and pulses. Early sowing of corn (0.02 thousand hectares planted in Zaporizhzhia) and millet (0.2 thousand hectares in Kherson region) has also begun.

It is worth noting that by April 11 last year, Ukraine had sown 1.261 million hectares of spring crops, 19% of the projected 5.601 million hectares for the 2023 season.

Oilseed sowing is in progress. Sunflower has been planted on 51.5 thousand hectares - just 1% of the 5.063 million hectares planned. Soybean sowing is also off to a slow start, with 4.5 thousand hectares planted so far, or 0.2% of the expected 2.411 million hectares.

Planting of sugar beets is progressing as well, with 76 thousand hectares sown as of April 10 - around 30% of the planned (255.2 thousand hectares).
