The hot weather in the first decade of July (with 4-10 days of temperatures above +30°C and 2-8 days above +35°C) was unfavorable for the formation of late agricultural crop yields in Ukraine. This is detailed in the ten-day report by specialists from the Ukrhydrometeorological Center.

"Due to the extremely high average daily temperatures and the rapid accumulation of effective heat (its total since the beginning of the growing season significantly exceeds the long-term average and is one of the highest on record), there was a reduction in the development phases of sunflower and corn. This could lead to the premature end of the growing season and a reduction in yields. In many areas, wilting of plants was observed during the day, and in some southern regions, drying and complete death of sunflower plants due to drought," the agrometeorologists noted.

They also highlighted that heavy rains accompanied by squally winds in some areas of the western and northern regions caused localized lodging of crops, some plant damage by hail, and the spread of fungal diseases on plants.

"However, precipitation in the form of heavy rain maintained satisfactory soil moisture on most areas under late crops," the report clarified.
