The season of 2024/25 MY for the Kazakh grain market started with the significant intensification of barley exports. APK-Inform reports with reference to the official statistics.
In September 2024, the TOP-3 importers of Kazakh barley significantly increased the purchases.
China is still in the first place, as well as last season, with 130.1 thsd tonnes of the grain shipped to this destination (99 thsd tonnes in September 2023 and 29.6 thsd tonnes in September 2022).
However, it is literally on the heels of Iran, which in the first month of the new season imported about 127 thsd tonnes of Kazakh barley (in September 2023 - only 399 thsd tonnes, an increase of 318 times!). Such a high figure was reached for the first time since February 2020. In September 2022, Iran purchased 68.6 thsd tonnes of Kazakh barley.
Finally, Uzbekistan is in the third place, having more than doubled the imports of grains from Kazakhstan - from 9 thsd tonnes in September 2023 to 21 thsd tonnes in September of this year.
In September of this year, imports of this product in other directions increased more than 2 times compared to last year, returning to the level of 2022.
In 2023/24 MY, Kazakhstan slightly reduced barley supplies to foreign markets. In the previous season, the country exported about 1.22 mln tonnes of Kazakh barley (-2.4% compared to the previous MY). It is worth noting that in 2023/24 MY China increased the exports of Kazakh barley to the record 926 thsd tonnes, compared to 591 thsd tonnes in the previous season. Other top importers reduced the purchases of barley from Kazakhstan.
It will be all the more interesting to discuss the prospects of the new grain season, in particular, barley imports, during the international conference KAZAKH GRAIN & LOGISTICS FORUM 2024, which will be held on December 5-6 in Astana.
