The prolonged sowing season and late sowing dates have delayed the harvesting campaign in Kazakhstan. If traditionally mass harvesting of grain in Kazakhstan starts from 10-15 August, this year the terms will be moved to early-mid September. This was stated by the Chairman of the Board of the National Association of Exporters ‘KazGrain’ Zeinolla Abdumanapov in an interview with 24.kz.

The pace of harvesting in this regard is also significantly behind the traditional values.

"According to official data, only 10 per cent of the total gross harvest has been threshed today. This is nothing at all for the current period of time. Usually every year in this period of time we used to harvest up to 40-50 per cent of grain crops,’ the expert said.

According to him, if the weather is favourable, Kazakhstan will collect a record high grain harvest.

"If last year's experience is repeated and there will be endless heavy rains, the harvest will be weak in quality, there will be a lot of sprouted grain. And if there are frosts, there is a risk that we may lose part of the harvest... In general, the harvest is good in the fields, but it is too early to make forecasts. When we start mass harvesting, then we will see... If in 2022 we harvested 20-21 million tonnes of grain, we expect 22-24 million tonnes in this year,’ Abdumanapov said.

He also noted that in the case of a record harvest there may be problems with its storage - according to the Bureau of National Statistics, the transferable stocks of grain in Kazakhstan at the end of the season exceeds 5 million tonnes.
