According to operational data, as of April 17, 1.247 million hectares of spring crops and legumes have been sown in Ukraine, which is 22% of the projected area (5.681 million hectares), reported the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.
Here’s how the planting progress breaks down for different crops:
- wheat – 169,4 thousand hectares (or 74% of the forecast);
- barley - 656,2 thousand hectares (85%);
- peas – 189,4 thousand hectares (87%);
- oat – 139,5 thousand hectares (87%);
- corn – 69,5 thousand hectares (2%);
- millet – 1,3 thousand hectares (1,6%);
- other cereals and legumes – 21,9 thousand hectares (20%).
It is worth noting that as of April 18 last year, 2.053 million hectares of spring crops had been sown in Ukraine, which also accounted for 36.7% of the planned area (5.601 million hectares).
In addition, the planting of oilseeds continues. Sunflower has been sown on 244,000 hectares, which is 5% of the planned area (5.063 million hectares), while soybeans have been sown on 16,100 hectares, or 0.7% of the projected 2.411 million hectares.
The planting of sugar beets is also ongoing, with 142.6 thousand hectares sown as of April 17, which is 56% of the planned area.
