Macroeconomic aspects of the development of the agri-food market in Europe (global and regional influencing factors) will be one of the key topics at the international «Baltic Grains & Oils Conference» , which will be held in Riga on April 16-17, 2025.

This topic will be presented by Monika Tothova, senior economist at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

Monika is the Senior Economist of the FAO Markets and Trade Division. She leads a team that provides short-term forecasts for key food commodities. Monika Tothova is also the secretary of the Agricultural Market Information System (AMIS), a G-20 initiative aimed at increasing market transparency.

Monika holds a PhD in Economics and Agricultural Economics from Michigan State University (USA). Before joining FAO in 2012, she worked for the European Commission in Brussels, Belgium, and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in Paris. 

During her presentation at the «Baltic Grains & Oils Conference» , Monika Tothova will provide an overview of the current state of supply and demand in the global cereals and oilseeds markets (with a particular focus on Europe). The expert will analyze production levels, consumption trends, and trade flows, and offer a forecast for the upcoming season, including changes in production and, consequently, trade. The speaker will also discuss the dynamics of global agricultural commodity prices, analyzing recent price trends and their main causes, as well as the key drivers and sources of uncertainty currently affecting agricultural markets.
