In the last two seasons, Kazakhstan has seen a real “boom” in the production of feed flour, with its export also growing rapidly. This was shared by Daulet Uvashev, Director of “Harvest Kazakhstan” during the «Baltic Grains & Oils Conference» in Riga on April 16.

The main supporting factor for this trend is the high demand from China.

“Previously, we simply sold feed wheat to China, but last year our Chinese partners in the bonded zone (a free economic zone) started “experimenting” with feed wheat, selling it as food wheat within China. China effectively banned the import of feed and introduced tariffs, so our Chinese partners switched to buying feed flour, which is not subject to tariffs. This is already the second season of very large exports of feed flour from Kazakhstan to the Chinese market” the speaker said.

According to his data, in the 2023/24 MY, Kazakhstan exported 787 thousand tons of feed flour, and in the first six months of the current season, 773 thousand tons have already been exported. Overall, the export of this product in the 2024/25 marketing year is projected to reach 1.4 million tons, the expert noted.

Daulet Uvashev clarified that 80% of the feed flour production uses wheat (mostly non-standard, 4th and 5th grade, with some producers also adding 3rd grade wheat), as well as about 20% barley.
