Gross grain harvest in Kazakhstan exceeds last year's by 50% - Ministry of Agriculture

Compared to the same period in 2023, 50% more grain has been harvested in Kazakhstan to date, indicating higher yields. Grains have been harvested from more than 30% of the area. This was announced during a conference call of the head of the Ministry of Agriculture Aidarbek Saparov with deputy regional akims.

As it is specified, as of September 12, 5.4 mln hectares of grain were harvested in Kazakhstan, 8 mln tonnes were threshed. Since the beginning of the harvesting campaign to the elevators of the republic received about 880 thousand tonnes of grain, of the received grain according to the quantitative-qualitative accounting, 61.4% of the wheat 3 class.

The Minister of Agriculture instructed to mobilise resources and take advantage of the stable weather for harvesting.

"Just yesterday I visited the elevator in Kostanay region, where they can not organise work in 3 shifts due to lack of people. Now we need to take care of round-the-clock work of bread receiving enterprises, so that tomorrow there was no congestion of cars, and people did not wait in queues,’ - said the head of the Ministry of Agriculture.

Due to heavy precipitation, which marked the beginning of September, the issue of shortage of grain drying units is especially relevant. In the regions there are more than 1.3 thousand grain dryers with a daily capacity of 923 thousand tonnes. In autumn 2023, 78 units were purchased, and at present the additional need is 82 more units.

In this year a new loan product for leasing of grain dryers was developed, more than 3 billion tenge was allocated to the financial institution for preferential lending of dryers. Earlier, KAF JSC financed the purchase of mobile units, currently a decision is expected to finance the purchase of stationary grain dryers under the leasing programme at 9% per annum for 7 years with an advance payment of 15%. Also, from 2023 there is a state support tool that allows to subsidise 30% of the costs for the purchase of grain dryers.

In the course of the meeting it was noted that a number of regions were weak in the shipment of cheap diesel fuel at a price 15% below the market price: about 192 thousand tonnes, or 54% of the plan, were shipped.

With the plan of 1.5 mln tonnes, 1.2 mln tonnes of fertilisers were shipped, which is 78% of the plan. Among the lagging areas, which diverted or returned funds to the budget, including Akmola and Turkestan regions. The Minister instructed to strengthen work on the shipment of mineral fertilisers, pointing out that these funds can not be used for other purposes.
