In 2024 corn harvest in Kazakhstan amounted to about 1 mln tonnes, which became the lowest indicator for at least the last three seasons. This is due to the reduction of sown area, reports APK-Inform with reference to the data of official statistics.

Thus, last year corn in Kazakhstan was sown on an area of about 162 thousand hectares. For comparison: in 2023, the sown area of this grain was about 194 thousand hectares, gross harvest - 1.19 mln tonnes. In 2022, these indicators reached 189 thousand hectares and 1.01 mln tonnes respectively.

As for the average yield of corn, in 2024 it amounted to about 62 c/ha, in 2023 - 62.5 c/ha, in 2022 - 58.5 c/ha.

The top three leaders in corn production in Kazakhstan in 2024 included Zhetysu region, where from 48 thousand hectares harvested 297 thousand tonnes of grain at an average yield of 72.8 c/ha, Turkestan region (sown area of 41.2 thousand hectares, gross harvest of 273 thousand tonnes at a yield of 66.2 c/ha) and Almaty region (49 thousand hectares, 271 thousand tonnes and 55 c/ha respectively).

As APK-Inform reported, in 2023 Kazakhstan faced the problem of corn overproduction, so farmers decided to reduce the area under this crop.

In 2024, Kazakh corn producers said that the prices offered by local processors are too low and do not cover all costs.
